Saudi Arabia is not all desert, there are also beaches here to enjoy. Right in one of the major cities in the kingdom, Al-Khobar, lies several beaches where people love to spend their weekends. One of them is
Dolphin Beach, just along the coastline of
Aziziyah . Mostly, the whole beach is what separates Saudi Arabia from Bahrain.
We came there on a special occasion. It is an event organized by the
OFW Congress and its members. Today, we are all gathered for a beach clean-up. For us, it is important that we do our share in maintaining the cleanliness of these beaches bacause many Filipinos visit these beaches to relax after a long week of work. In some way, its one of the closest things that make Filipinos feel that they're in their hometown. Also, the clean-up is one way to show gratitude to Saudi Arabia's government in our own little way.
After the clean-up, there are parlor games with prizes wherein all members joined to enjoy. Then, to end the event, there was a feast by lunchtime. A big
Budol Fight with our favorite Filipino dishes like
Adobo , Steamed Crabs, Grilled Chicken,
Pinakbet ,
Mechado , topped on rice.
As the event ended each of the members had their chance to enjoy the beach. In all fairness to this beach, it's really not bad. Sands were fine, and the water is very clear. Suprisingly, the water is calm and you will rarely see big waves.
In our time in the beach, most of us noticed that there are a lot of clams in the sand. Our group decided to gather all the clams we can and bring it home so that we can cook it for dinner.
It was a great experience. At least amidst all the hard work, we know that there is a place here that we can enjoy beach waters. It makes us feel a bit more closer to the Philippines even we are here in K.S.A.
