Family Is Love - FilCom Day 2018 - Al Shoula Beach Resort - Al Khobar

It's December again and our company hosted our kababayan employees to attend this year's Filipino Community Day held at Al Shoula Tourist Beach Resort in Al Khobar.  This event is regularly patronized by Filipinos all over the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia.  The festivities provides a getaway from stress from work and bond with the Filipino community is Saudi Arabia.

In this event, there are specialty shops, food stalls, and medical mission booths to cater all guests.  Aside from this, the Filipino community is also entertained by fellow OFW guests and Pinoy celebrities who flew directly to KSA from the Philippines just for the event.  This year, the celebrity guests are Lassy, Jay-R, and Gerald Anderson.

The venue also is a great place to enjoy strolling and swimming in the beach.  I believe it is the 3rd consecutive year that the event is held in Al Shoula Tourist Beach Resort.

Kudos to the organizers of the event as it is consistently and successfully held every year.  In a way, these events lessen homesickness of Filipinos here in Saudi Arabia.  I hope that it continues for the next years to come.

Sanbok Restaurant - Al Khobar

It's Ramadan and most of business establishments are closed during the day. It is only late at night around 9 PM, where most establishments open, so you can dine at restaurants on starting this hour. We are again looking for an interesting place to dine in. We were driving along the Corniche Road in Al Khobar when we decided to try this restaurant called Sanbok.

Sanbok is a seafood restaurant that also offers Asian, Indian, and International dishes.  They have a mini market with fresh catch.  You can buy it by the kilo and have it cooked by their chef.

Right now we wanted to try the lobster so we ordered that together with tom yum kung and sweet & sour meat balls.

Everything was delicious.  The lobster was cooked perfectly and we finished it in a flash.  By the way, they have an al-fresco dining overlooking the sea.  But since the heat outside is still at a high, we opted to dine inside.

Food/Taste:  9/10 (tasty, seafood was perfectly cooked)

Ambiance:  9/10 (nicely designed interiors with al-fresco dining by the sea)

Service: 8/10 (very helpful and courteous waiters)

Establishment:  9/10 (easy to find with big parking area)

Price:  6/10 (a bit overpriced in my opinion)

Overall:  8.33/10 (recommended to visit)

Thai House - Al-Khobar

Thai House is one of my favorite restaurants in Al-Khobar.  I love their tom yum and their stir-fried dishes.  Once a month I never pass the chance to dine here and try out the different menus.  But of course always with the tom yum.  Their Tom Yum here is to die for.  The restaurant is located in 1st street just a few blocks behind Al-Rahmaniya Mall.

Here, they serve mainly Thai dishes fused with Chinese and Filipino.  What I love about this restaurant is that prices are fairly affordable and you have options to choose on the serving size of your order (small, medium, large).  So, even if you are solo, or in a large group, you can have the right size and price.  Here is what we usually order here:

Price:  8/10 (reasonable prices)

Overall:  8/10 (recommended to visit)

Boiling Pot Restaurant - Al Khobar

There's a new restaurant in Al-Khobar that is gaining fame specially to the Filipino community and it's called the Boiling Pot.  It's no doubt that many Filipinos and other nationalities alike make this restaurant a favorite dinning spot because, it's an Eat-All-You-Can Grill & Hotpot for as low as SR59.

With a variety of choices for grilling like shrimp, fish, crab, chicken, cold cuts, and veggies, you will surely get what your money's worth.  For the hot pot, you can either choose from a "sinigang" or "tom yum" base, then create your own soup.  Plus, this buffet comes with free flowing drinks (iced tea and fruit juices) and decent choices of fresh fruits and sweets for dessert.  If you're a heavy eater, this is perfect for you.

Establishment:  8/10 (easy to find and accessible, but only street parking available)

Price:  9/10 ( SR59 for the eat-all-you-can buffet is value for your money)

Overall:  8.4/10 (still highly recommendable specially for groups)
