After a long week of hard work, we decided to cool down and relax at
Uqair Beach in Al-Ahsa district. We headed out during night time to escape the exhausting heat and humidity. It's a long drive to Ogre Beach. It would take around 1 hr or more in a fast car. Good thing there's no heavy traffic and the travel was a breeze.
The beach is not that majestic... The sand is slightly on the grayish side. No trees around. It's like you're in the middle of the desert with a body of water right next to you. But here, it is calm and serene. Plus, tonight, there are a lot of stars and the moon is full. So, it was ok, and a good ambience to relax.
As we arrived, we noticed that there are also a lot of fellow OFW's spending time at the beach with obviously the same reason we are there. Immediately, we started our picnic because most us were hungry after the long ride. Tonight, is a hearty Filipino feast! We have,
kare-kare,
papaitan,
kilawin, fried chicken, grilled chicken,
pansit, and
puto. It was truly a treat! I missed these dishes... All the eating and the sea breeze made me miss the Philippines even more. But for now, its time to relax, chill out, and spend spend the whole night in the beach.
I noticed some of the Filipinos here have brought their
sadiki (homemade hard liquor) with them. But this will be dangerous for them... Every once in a while the Saudi Coast Guard make their rounds and check for prohibited items along the beach. As it is against the law to consume or even carry any form of alcoholic beverages throughout Saudi Arabia. Oh well, I hope for tonight, no one will be apprehended. Its such a beautiful night and ruining it will be a bummer.
We also have a fish net with us. Just after eating we casted out the net and hopefully have a catch so that we can taste fresh seafood. As dusk approached, we were amazed that we caught a lot of crabs and fish! We cooked it immediately and had it for breakfast.
It was a fun evening here in
Ogre Beach. All of us enjoyed the night and ate our hearts out. We acheived our goal to chill out and relax. Now, we're headed home and prepare ourselves for another long work week ahead.
